E3 2011 Announced The Sims Social Coming To Facebook
EA Play announced that popular casual game franchise The Sims will finally appear on Facebook with The Sims Social, a new game that will launch around the world this summer in five languages.
Developed by EA’s The Sims and Playfish studios, the new title Sims Social will allow players to “build a bachelor pad or dream house, spark friendships and romances, and have exciting adventures,” just like the PC/console titles, except now with their Facebook friends.
A mobile companion app for The Sims Social will also be released, enabling players to interact with their virtual characters, “taking care of their wants and needs while away from their computers.” The Sims Social app is designed to run on current generation smartphones.
Since its introduction in 2000, The Sims franchise has sold more than 125 million units across a variety of platforms. The most recently released mainline title,
The Sims 3, shipped in 2009 and has gone on to sell 10 million copies around the world.
“This is the first time such a meaningful entertainment property is coming to Facebook. We are proud that we have combined the best of social game design with the best of The Sims franchise,” says John Earner, general manager at Playfish’s London studio.
“The Sims was born to be social, and we can now deliver on that. This game will set a new standard for quality and fun on the Facebook platform, and with the mobile companion app sitting alongside, The Sims fans will be able to enjoy playing with life anytime, anywhere.”
