Barnacle Bay, the latest addition to the Sims 3 universe is out, and it’s the first downloadable addition to cost actual money – 1,650 Sim points or $16 USD to be exact. Is Barnacle Bay worth the outlay? I think people made up their minds to hate it just because they had to pay for it. Well Barnacle Bay is now out, like it or not, you have to pay for it so get over it and let’s look at it objectively.
Personally I like Barnacle Bay. I could not careless about the Pirates and not really sure why EA chose this particular theme but they certainly can’t please everyone and let’s not forget that Electronic Arts Inc. is an actual business and they have to make money somehow.
Yes, there is the free World Builder tool that allows you to build your own worlds if you really do not want to spend any money but personally I don’t have the time to build anything even if I actually wanted too, I’d rather play and improve the already made up stuff.
I like the way Barnacle Bay is done and it looks nice with its waterfalls and river valleys with many nice campgrounds. The Pirate ship restaurant is another rabbit hole but looks really cool.
There are other things to love about this new download, such as the addition of 18 new pieces of content. These new content pieces include: outfits for buccaneering and bar wenches, boots, hats, and construction pieces for building private pirate hideouts and bars. Also, for those fond of fishing, Barnacle Bay introduces a plethora of great new fishing spots.

While Barnacle Bay is a welcome addition, and a must have for anyone who absolutely requires a complete Sims package, it doesn’t really deliver an experience that sells itself as a must buy for everyone. For example, some hyped features and promises of deeper discovery remain unfilled; vaguely realized only by animations that leave much to be desired and shallow display galleries.
All in all Barnacle Bay is worth its $16 price point. If you are a die-hard Sims fan, or simply are tired of the standard venues, then you will find Barnacle Bay worth your while.
